Piano and specialty item moves
Uprights, grands, pool tables, safes, gym equipment and anything over 150 kilograms.
An upright piano weighs between 200 and 350 kilograms and carries that weight high and towards the back. A baby grand has to be dismantled onto a piano skid before it moves at all. Both are perfectly movable with the right gear and completely unsafe without it.
Specialty items are quoted separately from the hourly rate because they need a third crew member, a piano trolley or skid, stair climbers for more than three steps, and in some cases a hoist. Tell us before the day, not on it.

Four wheel piano trolleys for uprights, timber skid boards and leg removal for grands, felt and blanket wrap throughout.
Third crew member
Specialty items are a three person job as a minimum, and four for a grand or a full size slate pool table.
Slate pool tables
Dismantled into slate sections, rails and frame, each piece wrapped and carried separately. Reassembly and levelling is a separate booking with a table technician.
Safes and gym gear
Safes to 500 kilograms on ground level with a skate set, multi station gyms dismantled to frames, treadmills strapped upright.

The brand plate, a photo, and the number of steps at each end. A grand also needs the room dimensions.

We confirm the gear and crew
Trolley or skid, stair climber, number of movers, and whether a hoist or window removal is needed.

Move day
Wrap, secure, walk it out slowly. Uprights travel upright and strapped to the truck wall, never on their back.

Tuning afterwards
Expect a piano to need tuning two to four weeks after a move once it has settled into the new humidity. We can recommend a tuner.

All questions and answersNo piano stays perfectly in tune through a move, because the soundboard responds to temperature and humidity. Tune it two to four weeks after the move, once it has acclimatised to the new room.
Usually, with a stair climber and three or four movers, if the treads are sound and at least 900 mm wide. Send a photo of the staircase and the landing turn.
Yes, and they are far simpler. A digital piano is usually a two person lift and does not attract the specialty item fee unless the stand is a full cabinet.
The frame and rails go back together the same day. Slate levelling and re-clothing is a specialist job booked separately, normally within the week.
